WATF’s CCTV Rental Program Keeps Friends & Family Close
Elnor is eighty-one, and has had macular degeneration for years. She has enough usable vision to put together the jigsaw puzzles she enjoys assembling, but not enough to read letters and numbers. She has rented a closed circuit TV magnifier from the Washington Assistive Technology since May 2005. With her CCTV, Elnor can keep up with her other favorite hobby -- sports. She regularly watches golf, as well as Sonics and Mariners games. With the CCTV, Elnor reads the sports page daily, to find out how her favorite teams and players are doing. Elnor also uses her CCTV to stay in touch with friends and family. She and her husband are both natives of the Midwest. They met shortly after World War II. Her husband is a veteran. They have been married for sixty years. Elnor is a retired bank employee, and her husband is retired from Boeing. They moved to Washington in 1951. Their four daughters, two grand children, and three great grandchildren all live near by. Elnor is delighted to be able to see her close-knit family so often, but she also wants to keep in touch with the community where she used to live in North Dakota. Each week, Elnor’s friends send her the newspapers from her former home. She reads them with her CCTV from the Washington Assistive Technology Foundation, cherishing the news of her friends and relatives. |
